Ascension of the Lord
We are celebrating the solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord. The Gospel tells us that “the risen Jesus appeared to the Eleven and said:” Go into all the world, proclaim the Good News to all creation. “Therefore, it is about a sendoff to mission at all times and in all places, a mission that encompasses all dimensions of our lives. As we reflect on this text, we should ask ourselves if we are living our baptismal vocation, our condition as missionary disciples of the Lord.
Like the apostles of that time, the Risen One also sends us to the world today. In the first Christian community this sending forth awakened an awareness of universal mission, that is, the first Christians took the Gospel to the entire world known at that time, crossing the borders of the people of Israel and even announcing it to the pagans. Thanks to his dedication and missionary drive, the words of the psalmist were fulfilled: “Clap your hands, all peoples, acclaim the Lord with shouts of joy.” (Psalm 46 [47], 2).
What does the mandate “go to all the world” mean to us today?
On the one hand, it is a call to participate in the multiple missionary initiatives that take place by visiting cities, homes, families and individuals to share our faith in Christ. On the other hand, it is a call to bring Jesus to all areas of our personal, family, work and community life; a call to bring Jesus into our entire world of personal and social relationships.
We are sent to all places, times and people to announce the Good News. What is this Good News, this Gospel?
First of all, it is about the Good News of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. The Resurrection of Jesus means that God accepted his sacrifice on the cross for the forgiveness of our sins. And since then, we know that death, sin and evil do not have the last word. Full life, love and communion with God have definitely triumphed and will also triumph in each one of us.
From this follows a second dimension of the Christian Good News: to believe in the Resurrection of Jesus Christ is at the same time to believe in God’s merciful and unconditional love for each one of us. “We have believed in the love of God: this is how the Christian can express the fundamental choice of his life. One does not begin to be a Christian through an ethical decision or a great idea, but rather through an encounter with an event, with a Person, who gives a new horizon to life and, with it, a decisive orientation. ”
We believe that God’s love is stronger than our sins, selfishness, and mistakes. We are loved! That is the Christian Good News that is destined “for all creation”, for all men and women, without exception.
Finally, we announce this Good News not through our own strength, but in the strength and grace of the Risen One, who, having ascended to heaven, is with the Father and with us, assisting us and confirming our words and actions with the signs of his presence.
We ask Mary, Queen of Apostles, to grant us the grace of apostolic fruitfulness so that, being aware of the baptismal grace that we have received, we may announce to all the Good News of the Resurrection, the Good News of God’s love.
Ascensión del señor
Estamos celebrando la solemnidad de la Ascensión del Señor. El texto del Evangelio nos dice que «Jesús resucitado se apareció a los Once y les dijo: “Vayan por todo el mundo, anuncien la Buena Noticia a toda la creación”. » Por lo tanto, se trata de un envío a la misión en todo tiempo y lugar, un envío que abarca todas las dimensiones de nuestra vida. Al reflexionar sobre este texto deberíamos preguntarnos si estamos viviendo nuestra vocación bautismal, nuestra condición de discípulos misioneros del Señor.
Al igual que a los apóstoles de ese entonces, también hoy el Resucitado nos envía a todo el mundo. En la primera comunidad cristiana este envío despertó una conciencia de misión universal, es decir, los primeros cristianos llevaron el Evangelio a todo el mundo conocido en ese entonces traspasando las fronteras del pueblo de Israel y llegando a anunciarlo a los paganos. Gracias a su entrega e ímpetu misionero, se cumplieron las palabras del salmista: «Aplaudan, todos los pueblos, aclamen al Señor con gritos de alegría.» (Salmo 46 [47], 2).
¿Qué significa para nosotros hoy el mandato «vayan por todo el mundo»?
Por un lado, es un llamado a participar de las múltiples iniciativas misioneras que se concretan visitando ciudades, hogares, familias y personas para compartir nuestra fe en Cristo. Por otro lado, es una llamada a llevar a Jesús a todos los ámbitos de nuestra vida personal, familiar, laboral y comunitaria; una llamada a llevar a Jesús a todo nuestro mundo de relaciones personales y sociales.
Somos enviados a todos los lugares, tiempos y personas para anunciar la Buena Noticia. ¿En qué consiste esta Buena Noticia, este Evangelio?
En primer lugar se trata de la Buena Noticia de la Resurrección de Jesucristo. La Resurrección de Jesús significa que Dios aceptó su sacrificio en la cruz para el perdón de nuestros pecados. Y desde ese entonces, sabemos que la muerte, el pecado y el mal no tienen la última palabra. La vida plena, el amor y la comunión con Dios han triunfado definitivamente y triunfarán también en cada uno de nosotros.
De aquí se desprende una segunda dimensión de la Buena Noticia cristiana: creer en la Resurrección de Jesucristo es al mismo tiempo creer en el amor misericordioso e incondicional de Dios por cada uno de nosotros. “Hemos creído en el amor de Dios: así puede expresar el cristiano la opción fundamental de su vida. No se comienza a ser cristiano por una decisión ética o una gran idea, sino por el encuentro con un acontecimiento, con una Persona, que da un nuevo horizonte a la vida y, con ello, una orientación decisiva.”
Creemos que el amor de Dios es más fuerte que nuestros pecados, egoísmos y errores. ¡Somos amados! Esa es la Buena Noticia cristiana que está destinada «a toda la creación», a todos los hombres y mujeres, sin excepción.
Finalmente anunciamos esta Buena Noticia no por medio de nuestras propias fuerzas, sino en la fuerza y la gracia del Resucitado, quien habiendo ascendido a los cielos está con el Padre y con nosotros, asistiéndonos y confirmando nuestras palabras y acciones con los signos de su presencia.
A María, Reina de los Apóstoles, le pedimos que nos conceda la gracia de la fecundidad apostólica para que siendo conscientes de la gracia bautismal que hemos recibido, anunciemos a todos la Buena Noticia de la Resurrección, la Buena Noticia del amor.
